Prep period checklist for teachers
Prep periods disappear fast. Deciding what each one is for, before it starts, is the simplest way to get them back.
Give each prep one main job
| Day | Main job | Why that day |
|---|---|---|
| Mon | Copies and setup for the week | The copier is quieter early in the week |
| Tue | Mark one class set | Work handed in Monday comes back faster |
| Wed | Plan next week's lessons | Midweek you know what's working |
| Thu | Grades and parent emails | Before the weekend, while it's fresh |
| Fri | Reset the room and set up Monday | Monday morning is already done |
Change the order to fit your timetable. The point is that each prep has one job.

Protect it
- Close email for the first 20 minutes.
- Keep a "waiting on" list for copies, supplies and replies so they don't take up headspace.
- If a meeting takes the prep, move the main job to the next prep, not to the evening.
